The Cottage

The wind howls during the autumn sky. Birds whisper in the distance as wind chimes sing louder the closer, I get to the cottage in the woods. Fallen leaves trail the ground cracking like pop rocks with every step taken. I didn’t realize how much I missed this little home. The smell stale books lined the walls. Dark oak cemented the flooring. I sat down my luggage and headed straight to the windows covered in newspaper and hidden behind curtains layered in dust. Wondering the halls brought back so many memories. Although it’s been years since I’ve been back, it looked as it was before. Nothing was out of place, a little dusting here, a sweep there, and it was right as new.

Dear Reader,

The last three days have been extremely emotional for me. I’ve cried and even wanted to punch a wall, but today I feel better. I’ve decided to spend the next few weeks or so grounded in this cottage, a place that’s always been my safe haven when the outside world was too noisy. If you feel overcome with feelings, I challenge you to center yourself and return to what once was. Bye for now.
